Shopping and Night Life in Ibiza

We start our tour in La Marina a neighbourhood next to the port that for years lived the shipbuilding boom. Nowadays this place retains the commercial spirit that it once had. Proof of that are the numerous antique shops in dei Comte Rosello street. For example at number six. This unique handbags and hats shop opened in 1916. At number four we find Pedro. The owner of this place has devoted more than 20 years of heart and soul to working with leather. Here we can buy belts made from horns or snakeskin. If we are looking for comfortable shoes at number eight we find all kinds of espadrilles and menorquinas a typical Balearic sandal. This store has been opened for 100 years...

But surely one of the most iconic images of the island are the sunsets. Here we can see the salt mountains. For centuries Ibiza´s salt makers were the city´s economic engine. The Phoenicians began to make salt here. It was a precious good as it was the only way to preserve food. Hence, in the Middle Ages, Ibiza was known as the salt island. Currently much of the production is sent to Scandinavian countries that continue to use it to salt fish ...

A few meters away we find Cap des Falco, one of the best places to watch the sunset enjoying two views: the image of the salt turning a pink colour, and the sea gradually swallowing up the sun. A sunset that may be accompanied by the relax of a nearby bar where drinks and soft music merge all into one.

More trade and commerce can be found in Marina Botafoch. A modern area, next to the marina where we will find luxury shops and restaurants to enjoy a nice meal without the hustle ands bustle of the city...

At night fall a more medieval spirit surrounds the area of the wall. Many visitors opt to visit this place at night when temperatures are a little bit cooler. Vila Square is at this time, one of the most romantic spots in town for dinner or walking.

As the night progresses, the port area becomes even more lively, with all kinds of restaurants and shops awaiting us.... In this area we find one of Ibiza leaders in fashion, also known as Ab-lib fashion. Designs in natural fabrics like cotton combined with traditional embroidery, easily transmits part of the island spirit. Many Ibiza designers are exclusively dedicated to the development of designs that are been increasingly demanded outside of our borders.

Very near to the port we run into the Park Square. A pedestrian zone surrounded by premises and terraces that are particularly nice when the sun goes down. If we pay attention to the floor in this square we will see, in a Hollywood style, the hands of several Ibiza inhabitants along side their professions. They are the stars of the square.

At dusk we find in different parts of the Marina and the port colourful and spectacular parades. Entertainment that will help us get an idea of another of Ibizas many faces.
