TORRE DE LA MALMUERTA

Plaza de Colón con Avenida de Ollerías

Built upon the remains an old Islamic structure, this is a unique example of the medieval architecture of the city. Of octagonal design, it was built in the early 15th century by Moorish workers and formed part of the wall in the north of the city. According to legend, the name of the tower comes from one of the king’s knights who, in a fit of passion, killed both his wife and her lover. As punishment he was condemned to build the tower which served as his prison until his death.
