Escorxador Street

At the beginning of the XX century the city needed many public buildings to make it socially and economically more modern and operational. One such place was the slaughterhouse, situated in the upper town, near the old Roman wall. The construction was carried out between 1899 and 1901, designed by Josep Maria Pujol i Barbera. A wrought iron fence leads us to the walls of the old slaughterhouse, erected in a U shape, built basically from masonry and brick. Currently the abattoir houses the Rovira i Virgili University rector’s office.
